ABOUT DR. SHAIBIDr. Gabriel Shaibi is a Professor and Southwest Borderlands Scholar at Arizona State University's College of Nursing and Health Innovation and Director of the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. He earned a BA in Kinesiology from Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Shaibi went on to earn his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California. His research focuses on cardiovascular and metabolic disease risk (insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and Type 2 diabetes) in overweight and obese populations. A major emphasis of work examines the associations between fitness and disease risk and the impact of exercise and physical activity on the health status of high-risk youth.
